Steelers Waive/Injured G Cole Manhart, Sign G Shahbaz Ahmed

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that they’ve waived G Cole Manhart with an injury designation on Monday and signed rookie G Shahbaz Ahmed to a contract.

Should Manhart clear waivers tomorrow, he would revert to the team’s injured reserve list.

Manhart, 23, wound up signing on with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska-Kearney back in May of last year. He lasted just a little over a month in Philadelphia before he was waived.

Manhart signed on with the Saints in July, but was among their final roster cuts at the start of the season. He did, however, catch on with the Raiders on a practice squad deal towards the end of the year, but didn’t appear an in NFL game.

The Steelers elected to sign him to a future/reserve contract this past January.
