Steelers Worked Out Veteran CB Robert McClain

Field Yates of ESPN reports that free agent CB Robert McClain worked out for his eighth team since the start of the regular season on Wednesday after he visited with the Steelers.

McClain, 27, is a former seventh round pick of the Panthers back in 2010. He lasted just over a year in Carolina before he was waived at the start of the 2011 season.

Since then, McClain has played for the Jaguars and Falcons before joining the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent this past March. Unfortunately for McClain, he was among the Patriots’ roster cuts at the start of the season.

The list of teams that have brought in McClain for workouts includes the Bears, Saints, Cardinals, Titans, Colts, and Rams.

In 2014, McClain appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons and recorded 59 tackles, one sack, two interceptions, and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 90 cornerback out of 108 qualifying players.

  1. I know the answer to releasing someone. Why not make it Wheaton. There not throwing to him anyway. He makes a 70 plus yard touchdown run when the Steeler game is about dead. Brought life back to Bells 1 yard run who got 10 times the credit as Wheaton recieved. Laundry got more credit. It should have been shared. Next game, he is cut out almost the whole game. Nine catches this season, with most of the other targets not even close. Like they were throwing the ball away. Give the kid a chance and cut him. He will be picked up the next day. Then he will burn Pittsburgh.

  5. I think the big question is if the Steelers think McClain can help them they will have to make a roster change either the release of an existing player or someone placed on IR. Steelers chose wisely.
