Steelers WR Antonio Brown Has Partially Torn Calf Muscle, Expected Back For Playoffs

Adam Schefter reports that Steelers WR Antonio Brown has a partially torn calf muscle and is unlikely to play next week. However, the expectation is that Brown will be able to return for the playoffs.

The Steelers announced have now announced that WR Antonio Brown is being transported to the hospital for further evaluation of his calf injury and he will not return to today’s game.

Steelers WR Antonio Brown was helped off of the field with a leg injury during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Patriots. After being evaluated in the medical tent, the Steelers’ training staff took Brown to the locker room for further evaluation.

Brown was attempting to make a catch in the end zone when his leg appeared to get somewhat trapped under a Patriots’ defender.

Brown, 29, is a former sixth-round pick of the Steelers back in 2010. He’s currently in the first year of his five-year, $72.71 million contract that included a $19 million signing bonus and stands to make base salaries of $7.875 million and 12.625 million over the next two years of the agreement.

Entering today’s game, Brown had appeared in 13 games and caught 99 passes for 1,509 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 1 receiver out of 115 qualifying players.
