Steelers WR Sammie Coates Undergoes Knee Scope, Could Be Placed On PUP List

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that Steelers WR Sammie Coates will miss the start of training camp after undergoing a knee scope last week.

According to Fowler, Coates suffered the knee injury while training in the offseason and he’s now a candidate to be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Even so, Fowler says Coates could be back mid-August, depending on how the knee heals.

There has been talk that Coates could be on the roster bubble this summer, so this is clearly a disappointing situation for him and the team.

Coates, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Steelers back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the remainder of the contract.

In 2016, Coates appeared in 14 games for the Steelers and caught 21 passes for 435 yards receiving and two touchdowns while adding 150 kick return yards.
