Update:

Alex Marvez of the Sporting News is reporting that the Bears are making a “big push” to sign free agent CB Stephon Gilmore.

Jason Cole of B/R reports that there’s “growing talk” of the Bears making a run at free agent CB Stephon Gilmore. Meanwhile, Brad Biggs believes the Bears could target free agent S D.J. Swearinger in the coming days.

The Bears are clearly a team in line to be one of the top spenders in free agency this year, as they’re also linked to QB Mike Glennon.

Gilmore, 26, was taken with the No. 10 overall pick by the Bills back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract, but the Bills elected to pick up his fifth-year option for the 2016 season which paid him a guaranteed salary of $11 million.

Gilmore is now in a position to be one of the best available cornerbacks in this year’s free agent market.

In 2016, Gilmore appeared in 15 games and recorded 48 tackles, five interceptions, and 12 pass defenses for the Bills. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 61 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.

Swearinger, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Texans back in 2013. He lasted just over two years in Houston before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later claimed off of waivers by the Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay cut him loose during the 2015 season and he later signed to the Cardinals’ practice squad. Arizona brought him back on a one-year contract last April.

In 2016, Swearinger appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals and recorded 66 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions and eight pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 safety out of 89 qualifying players.

We have both of them featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
