Stevan Ridley Could Be An Option For The Cowboys

Field Yates of ESPN suggested earlier in the day that free agent RB Stevan Ridley and the Cowboys could be a “very good match” on a one-year, prove-it type of deal.

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe has since confirmed that the there’s “definitely interest” between the Cowboys and Ridley, but there’s currently nothing being discussed between the two parties.

There hasn’t been a lot of buzz surrounding Ridley since free agency got underway on Tuesday, which probably isn’t surprising considering that he’s coming off of a serious knee injury.

  • Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press previously reported that the Vikings had inquired about Ridley.
  • Tomasson’s source said stressed that this is all very preliminary and there may only be interest if RB Adrian Peterson ends up leaving Minnesota.
  • Tomasson adds that the Vikings are doing their due diligence at running back for now.

The Cowboys are clearly in need of a running back have been linked to C.J. Spiller, but they could elect to hold out for a cheaper deal with a guy like Ridley, who offers upside and has something to prove in 2015.

Ridley, 26, played out his four-year, $2,953,500 rookie contract that included $1,023,000 guaranteed and is one of the best available running backs remaining in the free agent market.

In 2014, Ridley ran for 340 yards on 94 carries (3.6 YPC) to go along with four receptions for 20 yards receiving and two total touchdowns over the course of six games.

We have Ridley listed as the No. 77 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
