Stevie Johnson A Potential Cap Casualty?

Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550 Buffalo takes a look at a few Bills players who could be cap casualties this offseason.

According to Buscaglia, the No. 1 player to watch is WR Stevie Johnson. Buscaglia mentions that Johnson’s cap figure will increase by almost $3 million next year. For the record, Overthecap.com has his cap figure at $8.5 million.

Buscaglia adds that the Bills already have a similar type of receiver currently on their roster at much lower salary in Robert Woods.

Johnson, 27, signed a five-year contract worth $36.25 million that includes $18.05 million guaranteed with the Bills back in 2012. He still has three years remaining on this deal with a $3.65 million base salary for the 2014 season as well as $1.75 million roster bonus. Beyond that, Johnson will make $5.5 million and $5.85 million in the final two years of his contract.

It’s hard to say for certain that this is a move the Bills front office will consider in the coming months, but it is certainly a possibility.

Johnson played in 12 games for the Bills this season where he caught 52 passes for 597 yards and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus gave Johnson a positive rating, but that was only good enough for No. 54 overall among qualifying receivers.
