Still A Chance Chargers TE Hunter Henry Could Return This Season?

Eric Williams of ESPN writes that while Chargers TE Hunter Henry is unlikely to return in 2018 after suffering a torn ACL, there’s at least a chance he could be brought back towards the end of the year if needed.

Henry is nearly three months removed from undergoing knee surgery to repair his ACL and Williams says that Henry is moving pretty well on the field and has been very engaged during practice.

The Chargers will likely place Henry on injured reserve at the start of the season, but he could still be a candidate to be designated to return later on. Even so, Williams expects the Chargers to take his long-term future in consideration if he’s ready and able to return at a later point.

Los Angeles placed Henry on the PUP list at the start of training camp.

Henry, 23, is a former second-round pick of the Chargers back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $6.38 million contract that included $3.98 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $1.03 million and $1.32 million over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Henry appeared in 14 games for the Chargers and caught 45 passes for 579 yards receiving and four touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 3 tight end out of 74 qualifying players.
