Jets Re-Sign OLB Calvin Pace

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Jets have in fact re-signed OLB Calvin Pace to a one-year contract.

  • Mike Garafolo notes that the Jets owed Pace $8.5 million before he was ultimately released a few months ago.
  • The Jets took on $3 million in dead money following Pace’s release.

Pace will likely join Antwan Barnes as the team’s starting outside linebackers next season, but there’s still a chance they could walk away from the draft with another pass rusher to add to the mix.

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York “wouldn’t be shocked” to see the Jets re-sign free agent OLB Calvin Pace.

Cimini adds that there’s a “pro-Pace sentiment within the organization,” but he believes  a decision will ultimately come down to Pace being available “at the right price.”

The Jets cut Pace loose a few months ago as they began shedding salary. Pace, 32, hasn’t generated any reported interest up to this point, so it seems reasonable that he would consider signing a team-friendly contract.

New York has already added OLB Antwan Barnes this offseason, but could still use some additional help at the position. Pace’s familiarity with the Jets defensive could be an asset for a team that looks to considerably younger next season.
