Still A Chance Ravens TE Dennis Pitta Could Return This Season

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens have not ruled out TE Dennis Pitta possibly returning at some point this season.

  • Wilson admits that the chances of Pitta returning from his fractured and dislocated right hip in 2013 are still “slim.

Pitta, 28, has already undergone surgery, but the team hasn’t placed him on season-ending injured reserve just yet. According to Wilson, the Ravens emphasized that he has “no cartilage or ligament damage,” which is at least a fairly positive sign.

“It’s not procedural,” said HC John Harbaugh when asked about Pitta possibly returning this season. “As far as coming back? When we saw there was no ligament or structural damage in there, it gave us hope.”

The Ravens have already signed two veteran tight ends in Visanthe Shiancoe and Dallas Clark. Ed Dickson is expected to miss the remainder of the preseason, but he should be available for their Week 1 matchup.

Pitta is in the final year of his contract and most likely would have secured a very solid deal on the open market. We have Pitta listed as the No. 50 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.
