Jaguars Place RB Maurice Jones-Drew On The Reserve List

The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed RB Maurice Jones-Drew on the reserve list after he was no show for the start of training camp.

Jones-Drew is facing $30,000 fines per day until he returns to practice. Jacksonville has since signed FB Will Ta’ufo’ou to take his roster spot, according to Tania Ganguli.

The Jaguars have shown no interest in revisiting Jones-Drew’s contract, so this figures to carry on throughout training camp, assuming that he doesn’t change his mind and rejoin the team at some point. The fact that they’re implementing a new offensive scheme makes him a tough player to take in the first-round of your fantasy football draft.

NFL Network’s Steve Wyche reports Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew is “prepared to hold out through training camp — if not longer.”

This news comes in contrast to a previous report from today that Jones-Drew would most likely show up in the near future. If Jones-Drew is in fact serious about holding out for a long-term deal, it will most likely hinge upon Rashad Jennings performance in the coming months. So far, the team appears to be impressed with his overall ability, but he comes with injury concerns.

This is shaping up to be the biggest story line surrounding the Jaguars.

Mike Freeman CBS Sports reports that a source close to Maurice Jones-Drew has informed him that he’s “angry” with Jaguars for their stance regarding a new contract. Freeman ultimately believes that Jones-Drew “will likely show up sooner than later.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew will not report to training camp on Thursday.

In Jones-Drew’s absence, Jacksonville will begin preparing Rashad Jennings to handle the workload for the upcoming season.

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan mentioned that they have no intention of renegotiating Maurice Jones-Drew‘s contract.

“There’s no decision here,” said Khan, via the Florida Times Union. ““It’’s his choice. There’’s been very little for us to do rather than wait on whatever he might chose to do. … There are other people under contract in management, coaches. Does that mean if you do it for one, you do it for everybody? Where do you draw the line?

The team has their veteran players reporting to training camp on Thursday, but Jones-Drew will almost certainly not be in attendance. Given that the Jaguars appear to be taking a pretty firm stance in regards to the situation, it’s likely that this could last for the better part of camp and possibly into the season, depending on how far MJD wants to take it.

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey mentioned that he’s still unsure whether RB Maurice Jones-Drew will be attending the start of the team’s training camp on time, via the Florida Times Union.

Jones-Drew, 27, is reportedly willing to skip training camp in an attempt to secure a new long-term contract. Currently, he has two years remaining on his deal, which will pay him $4.45 million and $4.95 million respectively. There’s no question he’s worth more money than that, but the only person to blame in this situation is his agent and himself for agreeing to that a deal a few years ago.
