Still No Progress Towards An Extension For Titans & CB Alterraun Verner

Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean reports there has been “no real progress” between the Titans and free agent Alterraun Verner regarding a long-term extension.

  • Wyatt reported last week that Tennessee was still interested in retaining Verner, but doing so “could prove to be too expensive.
  • Wyatt added that the franchise tag is unlikely to be an option for the Titans.

The Rams and Vikings have both been floated as possible options for Verner in free agency, depending of course on what happens with the Titans.

Verner, 25, is in great position to secure a solid contract on the open market as he’s coming off of a Pro Bowl season for the Titans. He finished the year with 57 tackles, five interceptions including one for a touchdown, two fumble recoveries and 23 passes defensed.

Pro Football Focus has Verner rated as the No. 12 cornerback in the league this season. We have him listed as the No. 9 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
