“Strong Possibility” The Ravens Sign WR Anquan Boldin To A Contract Extension?

According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, there is a “strong possibility” that the Ravens could look to sign WR Anquan Boldin to a contract extension at some point during the offseason.

To say Boldin played great during the playoffs would be an understatement. He was clearly their most consistent receiving option throughout their Super Bowl run, but there’s been speculation as of late that he could end up being a cap casualty as the Ravens look to create some much needed cap space in the coming weeks.

Boldin, 32, is in the final year of his contract and is set to make a $6 million base salary for the 2013 season. He currently counts $7.531 million against the team’s salary cap, so there stands at least a chance that he could be approached regarding restructuring his deal to free up some extra cash.

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome told reporters on Thursday that they will not restructure deals to retain some of their free agent players, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t look to offer Boldin a contract extension that would lower his cap number in the process.

Baltimore has a ton of decisions to make in the coming weeks, so it’s safe to assume that we’ll be hearing much more regarding the Ravens.
