“Strong Sense” Around NFL That Rams Already Have Extension In Place For HC Jeff Fisher

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that a “strong sense” has emerged around the league that the Rams and HC Jeff Fisher have an extension agreement in place that will be announced at some point when the team deems it to be appropriate.

Florio mentions that after a 28-0 loss to the 49ers wasn’t an ideal time for the team to announce that they’ve extended their head coach, who has yet to produce a winning record for them.

This fits with a recent report from Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, who said that contract extensions for Fisher and GM Les Snead have yet to be finalized, but the expectation remains that they will get done at some point in the near future.

Earlier in the week, ESPN’s John Clayton reported yesterday on 710 ESPN Seattle that the Rams are expected to announce a three-year contract extension for Fisher at some point.

The word on the street, I don’t know if they actually put it in one of the…because…they haven’t really put out the Michael Brockers contract extension yet, because I know he just got a contract extension,” Clayon said, via TurfShowTimes.com. “I think they were gonna put at the bottom of the release that Jeff Fisher signed a 3-year extension.”

Fisher is in the final season of a five-year, $35 million deal.

The idea tossed out as an explanation for extending Fisher’s contract was that the team would prevent him from being a lame-duck coach this year, Also, with the team relocating to Los Angeles this year, it would give them time to settle in without a major shakeup on top of what they already dealt with in regards to the move.

Since taking the job in 2012, Fisher has led the Rams to a record of 27-37-1 (42.3 percent), which includes four straight seasons of less than eight wins and no playoff appearances.

We’ll have more regarding a new contract for Fisher as the news is available.
