T.J. Yates & Case Keenum Could Be Trade Targets For The Ravens?

 

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Ravens could keep an eye on the backup quarterback situation in Houston involving T.J. Yates and Case Keenum.

La Canfora mentions that the Ravens would like to find an upgrade to incumbent backup, Tyrod Taylor who has reportedly “fallen out of favor” in Baltimore.

The Ravens brought in former Texans HC Gary Kubiak to run their offense, so it’s not all that crazy to suggest that they could target someone who happens to be familiar with his offense.

The expectation is that Yates and Keenum are competing for a single roster spot behind Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tom Savage, which means the Texans could field calls for both of them to see if they could tempt a team like the Ravens to part with a draft pick in return either player.

La Canfora believes Keenum makes the most sense, even though his skill set is nowhere close to Joe Flacco‘s.

“[T]o a team with expectations of competing next season, the value of a young, developmental quarterback who already has a relationship with the new coordinator and has started games in the system, just might make it worthwhile to send a late-round pick to Houston to land Keenum, rather than wait for him to possibly be cut,” writes La Canfora.

Keenum, 26, has one year remaining on his contract and stands to make $495,000 for the upcoming season. However, he’ll be an exclusive rights free agent, which essentially means the team can re-up him for a very reasonable salary next without having to deal with other interested teams.

Last year, he appeared in eight games for the Texans and threw for 1,760 yards while completing 54.2 percent of his passes to go along with nine touchdowns and six interceptions.
