Takeo Spikes Hoping To Be Back With The Chargers Next Season

Chargers ILB Takeo Spikes mentioned that he expects to be back in San Diego next season, per Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune

“I still think it’s possible,” Spikes said on Friday. “I really do. Not like I’m hoping, I believe that. You’ve got new blood in the building, and any time you’ve got new blood in the building, you never do know.”

Spikes, 36, is hoping to finish out his contract with the Chargers, but has reportedly been playing phone tag with new head coach Mike McCoy. He’s owed $3 million for the 2013 season, but his advanced age and the fact that there’s a new regime in place for the Chargers suggests that there’s a decent chance that he could be cut loose in the coming months.

The good news for Spikes, however, is that the Chargers do not have an obvious replacement for him on their roster. This could change depending on what San Diego elects choose to do during free agency and draft.
