Tannehill: Dolphins Starting RB Will Be Lamar Miller

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill was a guest on the NFL Network’s “NFL Total Access” Monday evening.

During his interview, he was asked which player in head coach Joe Philbin‘s “wide open” running back competition would win the battle. Tannehill, without missing a beat, replied:

“Lamar Miller right now. He’s doing a great job this offseason, really has a great handle on the offense and he’s doing a great job protecting. … They can (all) run the ball but being able to understand the pass game, understand the checkdowns and where they’re protecting really makes a big difference and makes me more comfortable.”

After letting go of Reggie Bush during the offseason, the Dolphins apparently favor Miller over the likes of 2011 second-round selection Daniel Thomas and rookie rusher Mike Gillislee.

With the addition of wide receiver Mike Wallace to help stretch the field, there’s certainly a chance Miller could be a breakout player in 2013.
