Teams Believe Saints Could Make Adrian Peterson Available For Trade

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Sunday morning that multiple teams believe the Saints could make RB Adrian Peterson available for trade ahead of the upcoming deadline.

“With Sean Payton preferring a two-back system in New Orleans, there are teams around the league that believe Adrian Peterson could be available before the Halloween trade deadline,” Schefter said, via CBSSports.com.

Jason La Canfora previously reported that the Saints have no plans to either trade or release Peterson and are actually hoping to get him more work in their offense moving forward.

After a sideline incident, Saints HC Sean Payton downplayed any concerns.

“It was definitely overdramatized,” Peterson said. “Of course, with the heat of the game, me being back in Minnesota and things like that, just catching that look – that intense look on my face, like I had – I actually got some laughs out of some of the memes that were made.

Even so, it’s clear that the Saints are probably better off moving forward with Mark Ingram and rookie Alvin Kamara as the focus of their rushing attack.

If New Orleans could recoup even a conditional seventh-round pick for Peterson, it would probably be worth it.

The Giants could really use some help at the position, but they resisted bringing in a veteran all offseason, so there’s no guarantee they would be willing to part with draft compensation for Peterson at this point in the year.

Peterson, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2007. After 10 seasons in Minnesota, Peterson signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Saints and stands to make base salaries of $1 million and $1.05 million over the next two years.

In 2017, Peterson has appeared in four games and rushed for 81 yards on 27 carries (3 YPC) to go along with two receptions for four yards receiving and no touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Peterson as the news is available.
