Teams Have Some Trade Interest In Falcons WR Roddy White, Ravens & Cowboys Fits?

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that there teams around the league with “some interest” in possibly trading for Falcons WR Roddy White.

  • According to La Canfora, these teams are in the process of determining White’s trade value, in the event they reach out to the Falcons about a potential deal.
  • La Canfora suggests the Cowboys and Ravens as two teams that could be good fits for the veteran receiver.

White seems to be extremely frustrated with his new role in the Falcons’ offense.

“For me, at the end of the day, I want to catch passes,” White told ESPN.com. “I’m not out here just f—ing around just to sit around to just block f—ing people all day. It’s not what I want to do.

“I’ve contributed to offenses for this franchise for the last nine, 10 years. It always bothers me when I go out and don’t catch any balls in a game because it hasn’t happened in so long.

White added that he has yet to approach offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan regarding his lack of opportunities.

“I don’t,” White said of expressing his feelings to Shanahan. “I just stay consistent. I just have to handle my business and what I can do; be the best football player I can be. He’s going to do what he has to do. He’s going to call the plays the he wants to play and how he wants to play it. Formations are made out how he wants to do it.

“I just have to stick in there and bear with it; just continue to do my job. And hopefully, Matt [Ryan] will throw me some balls.”

The Cowboys have sustained a number of injuries to their offensive weapons this year, so I’m sure they would, at the very least, consider potential trade options, depending on the asking price.

The same can be said of the Ravens, who lost Michael Campanaro for the season and Steve Smith is dealing with a back injury. On top of that, first-round WR Breshad Perriman is still sidelined with a PCL injury.

White, 33, is in the second year of his four-year, $30 million contract that included $10 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $2.2 million (2015), $2.75 million (2016), and $3 million (2017) over the next three years.

According to OverTheCap.com, trade White would free up $2,362,500 in available cap space while creating $3,775,000 in dead money.

This season, White has caught just six passes for 92 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the Falcons over the course of four games.
