According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, teams around the league expect the Texans to trade out of the No. 1 overall spot.
- Werder specifically mentions that the Falcons are the “most likely partner“ in regards to a possible move up.
- Werder added later in the day that it would likely cost the Falcons a second-round pick as well as another 2014 selection to go along with their N0. 1 pick in 2015 for the first overall pick.
Of course, the terms of an agreement are always negotiable, so Werder is just trying to offer an idea of what it would take to complete such a deal.
Meanwhile, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that “there are no shortage of execs in the league who believe the Texans’ best odds of trading out of top spot is with the Falcons.”
This coincides with what Gil Brandt mentioned earlier this week. Brandt tweeted that there is a “good chance” the Texans trade back in a similar “prearranged” trade for South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney.
Werder brings up in an interesting point regarding a possible prearranged deal for Clowney in that the rookie slot for the top pick will run them $4.03 million while the No. 6 pick comes in at $2.97 million.
Werder mentions that this probably means that the Texans can’t take Clowney and then trade him afterwards.
If there was ever a year to move back and load up on draft picks, it would have to be this year as many have referred to this year’s draft class as the deepest in years.
