Report: No Deal For Routt After “Great Visit” With The Lions

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that CB Stanford Routt  had a “great visit” with the Lions, but he left the team facilities without a deal.

You’ll know the news when there is news to be known,” Routt said, “I’ve got several different things on my plate right now so we’ll just see how it goes.”

The Dolphins and the Cardinals are also being mentioned as possible destinations for Routt, but they haven’t offered him a workout yet. The Lions will probably wait and see how their cornerbacks play against a struggling Vikings passing attack on Sunday.

Adam Caplan of TheSidelineView.com reports that the Detroit Lions will host free agent CB Stanford Routt on Friday, according to an NFL source.

Routt offers great size, which happens to be something that the Lions secondary is currently without and also provides decent experience. The Lions seemed like a strong option for Routt was he was released by the Chiefs, but he’ll still have to show them something during today’s workout to persuade them to sign him.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported last night that the Dolphins, Cardinals, and Lions were all interested in recently released CB Stanford Routt.

Since then the Miami Herald has ruled out the Dolphins as being a potential suitor for Routt, which is interesting when you consider that Miami lost CB Richard Marshall for the season.

Arizona makes sense, as Aaron Rodgers targeted rookie Jamell Fleming throughout Week 9’s game and the Lions have been looking for secondary help for months now. Routt, 29, has already cleared waivers, so he can sign with a new team as soon as a deal is agreed upon.
