Teams Showing Trade Interest In 49ers TE Vernon Davis & Rams TE Jared Cook

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that “several” teams are exploring the possibility of upgrading at tight end ahead of the trade deadline.

According La Canfora, the 49ers and Rams have both received inquiries from other teams regarding tight ends Vernon Davis and Jared Cook.

La Canfora writes that both San Francisco and St. Louis appear to be open to the possibility of moving Davis and Cook, but no deals are imminent at this time.

The 49ers and Rams have reportedly not begun shopping either player around the league, but La Canfora adds that the widely held among other teams that they could be had. Determining each player’s trade value is something teams are currently working on, according to La Canfora.

Sources tell La Canfora that this year’s trade deadline could end up having more action that normal.

Last we heard regarding Davis, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported that the 49ers trading him is considered unlikely as of now.

Davis is dealing with a knee injury and is in the final year of his contract, which means even if San Francisco were willing to part ways with their tight end right now, it’s doubtful they’d get much more than a late-round pick for him.

Davis, 31, is in the final year of his six-year, $42.705 million contract that included $23 million guaranteed, and stands to make a base salary of $4.35 million for the 2015 season.

Davis would be one of the best available tight ends in next year’s free agent pool, and allowing him to sign elsewhere would likely net the 49ers a compensatory pick in 2017.

This season, Davis has been limited to appearing in three games and recording eight receptions for 109 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the 49ers.

Cook, 28, is in the third year of his five-year, $35.11 million contract that included $19 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $7 million over the next two years and $7.1 million in 2017.

This season, Cook has appeared in five games and caught 15 passes for 169 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the Rams.
