Teddy Bridewater Not A “Franchise Savior?”

Until recently, many viewed Louisville QB Teddy Bridewater as the consensus top player in the 2014 NFL draft class, but opinions have changed some in recent weeks, which has forced some to reconsider the possibility of Bridewater going No. 1 overall to the Houston Texans.

Peter Bukowski of SI.com spoke a veteran NFC scout who believes Bridewater isn’t as good as some think he is.

“I’ve seen a lot of Teddy. I don’t have him in [Andrew] Luck’s class as a prospect,” the scout said. “...I don’t see Bridgewater as a franchise savior like RGIII was in Washington … Now if he went to the Houston Texans, which is a damn good team already, could he turn them around kind of like the Chiefs did this year? Yeah, he could.

Interestingly enough, the scout compared Bridewater to Rams QB Sam Bradford and believes he has a chance to come in and minimize mistakes in the NFL. Others have offered a Russell Wilson comp for Bridewater.

It’s still earlier in the draft process, so it seems almost certain that opinions will continue evolve in the coming months. Teams in need of help at quarterback include: the Texans, Browns, Raiders, Jaguars and Vikings.

We have Bridewater going to the Texans at No. 1 overall in our most recent 2014 NFL Mock Draft.

  1. Manziel is the man for Houston. Make no mistake about it. There maybe some scouting tactics working here. He IS like Wilson or Colin K in San fransisco. Very exciting to watch like Farve was. ANY on else is just ok.
