Texans Announce Brian Hoyer Will Be Their Starting QB

Texans HC Bill O’Brien announced Friday that they are starting Brian Hoyer at quarterback for their next game against the Jaguars.

We’re going to go with Brian Hoyer,” O’Brien said, per Aaron Wilson. “Brian Hoyer will start the game against Jacksonville.

Hoyer was the more effective quarterback during Thursday night’s loss to the Colts. However, he threw an awful interception towards the end of the game that essentially sealed the win for Indianapolis.

Ryan Mallett was replaced after taking a shot to the ribs. Although, Mallett was quickly cleared, but never entered the game again. He was clearly frustrated on the Texans’ sideline for the remainder of the game.

Hoyer managed to win the job coming out of the preseason, but it didn’t take long for Mallett to supplant him as the starter.

Hoyer, 29, completed 24-of-31 passes for 312 yards, two touchdowns and an interception during last night’s game.

On the season, Hoyer has completed 62.1 percent of his passes for 780 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions.

As for Mallett, has completed just 53.1 percent of his passing attempts for 770 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions.
