Texans CB Johnathan Joseph Could Be Trade Target For The Jets?

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News mentions that an intriguing name to keep an eye on regarding the Jets search for cornerback help is Johnathan Joseph of the Texans.

  • Mehta adds that he expects the Jets to look to the waive wire and explore all possible trades in the coming days.
  • Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network has already tossed out the Jets as a possible option for veteran CB Champ Bailey, who was released earlier today.

The Jets cut CB Dimitri Patterson earlier today and they were already in need of cornerback help with him on their roster.

Joseph, 30, has yet to appear in a preseason game due to a toe surgery he’s recovering from. Houston expects Joseph to be ready in time for the start of the regular season, so his toe is unlikely to be a deal breaker.

However, Joseph’s cap figure of $11.25 million would probably be an impediment to trade. Joseph is entering the fourth year of his five-year, $48.75 million contract and will make $7.5 million for thus season.

Last year, Joseph appeared in 15 games and recorded 47 tackles, three interceptions and 16 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 25 cornerback out of 110 qualifying players last season.
