Texans Claim CB Marcus Williams Off Waivers From Jets, Release OT Jah Reid & CB Johnthan Banks

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Texans have claimed CB Marcus Williams off of waivers from the Jets on Tuesday.

  • Field Yates reports that the Texans have released CB Johnthan Banks and OT Jah Reid.

Williams, 26, originally signed on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of North Dakota State back in May of 2014. He was waived from the Texans’ practice squad a few weeks into the regular season before later signing on with the Jets.

Williams played out the final year of his three-year, $1.53 million contract before returning to the Jets on a one-year, $2.75-million restricted contract this offseason. The Jets waived him on Tuesday to make room for WR Jalin Marshall, who was activated from the exempt list.

In 2017, Williams has appeared in five games for the Jets and recorded five tackles and no interceptions or pass defenses.

Banks, 27, was originally drafted in the second-round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers. He played out the final year of his four-year, $4.726 million rookie contract and tested the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

The Buccaneers traded Banks to the Lions in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft before the deadline. However, the Lions waived him a month later and he was claimed off of waivers by the Bears.

The Bears re-signed him to a one-year contract back in March, but released him as they worked down to the 53-man limit. The Texans signed him to a contract a few weeks ago.
