Texans Claim CB Terrance Mitchell Off Waivers From Cowboys

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans have claimed CB Terrance Mitchell off of waivers from the Cowboys.

Dallas waived Mitchell on Wednesday and elected to sign DBs Isaiah Frey and Dax Swanson to contracts today.

Mitchell will replace CB Richard Leonard, who underwent surgery to repair a torn hamstring last week.

Mitchell, 24, is a former seventh round pick of the Cowboys back in May of 2014. He was unfortunately unable to make the Cowboys’ 53-man roster during his rookie season, but later signed on to the Bears’ practice squad at the start of the season.

Mitchell managed to make the team coming out of the preseason this year, but was on and off of the Bears and Cowboys’ practice squads last year.

He’s currently in the second year of his three-year, $1.8 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $600,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Mitchell appeared in eight games and recorded 13 tackles, a sack, an interception, a forced fumble and three pass defenses for the Bears and Cowboys.
