Report: NFL Will Suspend Texans DE Antonio Smith

Update:

Ed Werder of ESPN stated that the NFL is “considering substantial fine and regular-season suspension” for Texans DE Antonio Smith.

A previous report indicated that Smith may only receive a preseason suspension, which really doesn’t hold as much weight.

We’ll have more as the news is available.

——–

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the NFL is expected to suspend Texans DE Antonio Smith for up to two preseason games for the incident involving Dolphins G Richie Incognito.

  • Schefter adds that an official announcement from the league is expected to come some time Tuesday.

——–

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports released a video on Monday that shows Texans DE Antonio Smith ripping off the helmet off Dolphins G Richie Incognito and swinging it at his face.

  • According to Glazer, Smith could face a “severe” penalty and possibly a multi-game suspension for his actions.
  • “I think it’ll be more than a fine,” stated Glazer. “I think we’re looking at a suspension.
  • Glazer adds that the NFL is aware of the video and is in the process of reviewing the case.

It’s hard to say for certain that Smith made contact with Incognito’s head, but it appears to be that he did. Either way, it’s more than enough for the league to act. We’ll have more as the news is available.
