Texans Haven’t Discussed A Contract Extension With LB Brian Cushing

Texans LB Brian Cushing mentioned that he’s yet to discuss a contract extension with the team, despite the fact that he’s entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Cushing, 26, is coming off of a  torn ACL that he suffered last September, so his injury could be one of the main reasons why Houston hasn’t approached him regarding an extension up to this point.

“I know it wasn’t the best thing to really help with getting it done,” said Cushing, per Tania Ganguli of the Houston Chronicle. “I think they know the kind of player I am, they know I’ll come back to be the same player if not better, so I’ve got that going for me. I’m on the right track right now and very confident that I’ll be back and won’t miss a step.”

Given that he suffered a serious knee injury, it appears as though the Texans would like to see how he recovers before starting long-term contract discussions.

… After being a captain around here, I think I’ve played pretty well and done a good job with my role,” said Cushing. “I think that’d be someone they would want to keep around here and I hope so. So you know, I mean, like I said, I’m just taking care of what I can right now and hopefully that will take care of the rest. … With a city like this that’s embraced me, organization that’s embraced me as a player, I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.”

We have Cushing listed as the No. 13 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.
