Texans LB DeMeco Ryans May Have To Take A Pay Cut

Arthur Arkush of Pro Football Weekly reports that the Houston Texans may approach ILB DeMeco Ryans about taking a pay cut in the coming weeks.

Ryans is set to make $5.9 million for the 2012 season but the team apparently would like to give Darryl Sharpton some more playing time next to Brian Cushing.

Ryans suffered a torn Achilles’ tendon and the teams’ defense has made large improvements under Wade Phillips direction so his value has decreased considerable in recently despite being considered one of the game’s best middle linebackers just a few seasons ago.

I doubt the Texans would cut him but a reduced salary seems very likely.
