Texans Leaning Towards Taking Johnny Manziel With The No. 1 Pick?

Mike Freeman of the Bleacher Report reports that league sources “increasingly believe” that the Houston Texans will end up taking Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel the No. 1 overall selection in this year’s draft.

  • Freeman adds that the “belief ” privately is that Texans are “falling in lust with him.”

Freeman’s article also highlights the disparity around the league regarding Manziel’s NFL prospects. Some of the people around the league that Freeman spoke to question Manziel as a person while others mention that using a high first-round pick on him would be an “extremely risky” move.

Manziel recently mentioned that the Texans passing on him would be the “worst decision they’ve ever made” and implied that he would be playing for the Jaguars.

At this point in time, there is really no consensus regarding the top quarterback in this year’s draft class, but that could change depending on what happens in the coming weeks. Blake Bortles has said that he intends to throw at this year’s Scouting Combine, which could give him a chance to impress NFL teams in need of a quarterback like the Texans.

We have Manziel going to the Browns at No. 4 overall in our most recent 2014 NFL Mock Draft.
