Texans No. 1 Overall Pick Jadeveon Clowney Undergoes Hernia Surgery

Texans HC Bill O’Brien announced that No. 1 overall pick DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney had a recent “groin issue” and underwent sports hernia surgery in Philadelphia on Thursday, per Tania Ganguli of ESPN.com.

  • O’Brien added that Clowney is expected to be back in time for training camp, per Drew Dougherty.

Clowney has reportedly been lining up all over the place during OTAs, so it will be interesting to see how he’s used in his first year in the NFL.

The Texans really bolstered their defensive front-seven with the additions of Clowney and third-round pick NT Louis Nix. If Clowney is able to step in and produce from day one, they could have the most dominant pass-rush tandem in recent years with J.J. Watt who is already among the best players in the NFL.

At South Carolina, Clowney totaled 130 tackles, 47 tackles for a loss, 24 sacks, nine forced fumbles and a recovery.

Hopefully this is the last we hear regarding groin issues for Clowney.
