Texans Place QB Deshaun Watson On IR With Torn ACL, Waive G Dorian Johnson

The Houston Texans have officially placed QB Deshaun Watson on injured reserve and waived G Dorian Johnson.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Watson, unfortunately, suffered a torn ACL yesterday after he went down with a non-contact injury during Thursday’s practice.

Watson is facing a nine-month recovery following surgery, which leaves him in line for an August return, give or take.

Watson, 22, was taken in the first-round of this year’s NFL draft by the Texans. He signed a four-year, $13.854 million with the Texans and stands to make base salaries of $465,000 and $1,094,740 over the first two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Watson appeared in seven games for the Texans and thrown for 1,699 yards while completing 61.8 percent of his passes to go along with 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He has also rushed for 269 yards on two touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 24 quarterback out of 34 qualifying players.
