Texans Place WR Demaryius Thomas & CB Kayvon Webster On IR

Field Yates reports that the Texans have placed WR Demaryius Thomas and CB Kayvon Webster on injured reserve Monday.

Other roster moves from the Texans include:

  • Texans promoted signed WR Steven Mitchell Jr. to their active roster.
  • Texans signed OLB Chris Landrum to their practice squad.
  • Texans released ILB Kennan Gilchrist from their practice squad.

Thomas suffered a ruptured Achilles during Sunday’s game, so this move was expected.

Thomas, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Broncos back in 2010. Hein in the fourth year of his five-year, $70 million contract that included $43.5 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $8.5 million and $14 million over the final two years of the agreement.

The Broncos picked up Thomas’ $4 million option this past March before trading him to the Texans for fourth- and seventh-round picks before the deadline.

In 2018, Thomas had appeared in 14 games for the Broncos and Texans and caught 53 passes for 618 yards receiving and five touchdowns.

Webster, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Broncos back in 2013. He has played out his four- year, $2,745,800 contract before signing a two-year, $7.75 million contract that included $4.25 million guaranteed with the Rams last March.

Webster was set to make a base salary of $3 million for the 2018 season when the Rams released him during the offseason. The Texans later signed him to a contract in the final week of the preseason.

Houston placed Webster on injured reserve before designated him to return a few weeks ago and just recently activating him.

In 2018, Webster appeared in two games for the Texans and recorded one tackle and no interceptions.
