Texans Prepared To Franchise Connor Barwin?

According to Pro Football Weekly, the Houston Texans are still trying to figure out a way to keep OLB Connor Barwin on their roster next season, even if it would require them to use their franchise tag.

Barwin, 25, will be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months. Applying their franchise tag to him would cost them close to $9 million for the 2013 season. Houston has already locked QB Matt Schaub and LT Duane Brown recently, so cap space could be tight come next March.

While it seems as though Barwin has been a productive player for the Texans’ defense, Pro Football Focus’ ratings paint him in a different light. It will certainly be interesting to see if Houston continues their aggressive approach towards keeping their team together.

We have Barwin listed as the No. 31 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
