Texans QB Brian Hoyer Clears Concussion Protocol, Will Start In Week 12

Texans HC Bill O’Brien mentioned on ESPN’s NFL Insiders that Brian Hoyer has cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and will start this week’s game against the Saints.

He passed the final (concussion) test and he will be our starter on Sunday,” O’Brien said.

Following Sunday’s win over the Jets, O’Brien made it clear that Hoyer would return to the starting role, even though they’ve won back-to-back games with T.J. Yates.

Hoyer, 30, is in the first year of his two-year, $10.5 million contract that included $4.75 million guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of $1.5 million this season and another $5.25 million in 2016.

This season, Hoyer has appeared in seven games and thrown for 1,704 yards while completing 59.5 percent of his passes to go along with 13 touchdowns and four interceptions. Pro Football Focus has Hoyer rated as the No. 15 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.

Yates, 28, has appeared in two games and thrown for 298 yards while completing 46.7 percent of his passes to go along with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
