Texans Recent QB Moves Further Suggests They’re Taking A QB No. 1 Overall

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle writes that the Houston Texans have “given every indication” that they will use their No. 1 overall pick on a quarterback now that they have traded QB Matt Schaub to the Raiders, and signed veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.

  • McClain mentions that it would be “naïve” to think GM Rick Smith brought in Fitzpatrick to be the full-time starter next season.
  • McClain lists as Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Johnny Manziel as the candidates to be selected No. 1 overall.

It’s worth mentioning that McClain has been saying that Houston was going to take a quarterback at the top of the first-round for months now.

There has been a lot of talk that Bortles could be the guy to watch for the Texans given that he appears to be the better fit in the new HC Bill O’Brien’s offense. However, O’Brien has said publicly that this talk is overblown.

Bridgewater has a decent contingent of supporters, but his Pro Day performance was lackluster enough that it could have an impact on his draft to some degree.
