Texans Sign 5 Draft Picks Including First-Round QB Deshaun Watson

The Houston Texans have signed five draft picks to four-year contracts on Friday including first-round QB Deshaun Watson, according to Mark Berman.

The other players signed include second-round LB Zach Cunningham, fourth-round OT Julie’n Davenport, fourth-round DL Carlos Watkins, and fifth-round DB Treston Decoud.

According to OverTheCap.com, Watson will receive a four-year contract worth $13,854,482, which includes a signing bonus of $8,215,988. The contract also has a fifth-year option for the team to consider in 2020.

Watson, 21, was selected with the No. 12 overall pick by the Texans after they elected to trade up with the Browns. In total, the Texans gave up their first-round pick this year and another first-round selection in 2018 for the right to draft Watson.

There’s no question that Texans had to find a long-term quarterback prospect and Watson is considered to be the most NFL-ready quarterback in this year’s draft class.

As of now, the expectation is that Houston will open camp with Tom Savage as their starting quarterback, but it would be a mistake to discount Watson’s chances of winning the job.

Watson led Clemson to a National Championship during his Junior season and was a finalist for the Heisman trophy in 2016.

During his college career at Clemson, Watson has completed 67.7 percent of his passes for 9,201 yards to go along with 83 touchdowns and 29 interceptions over the course of 32 games. Watson has also contributed 1,744 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns on the ground
