Texans Sign Matt Leinart

After being cut by the Arizona Cardinals this weekend, Matt Leinart has found a new home in Houston. The Texans have signed the quarterback to a one-year deal which was confirmed by Leinarts agent Tom Condon.

Leinart was reported to be looking for a starting quarterback job but given that he has very little experience in the NFL and the fact that teams are already prepared for the start of the season, Leinart was forced to find a backup job. He should provide the team better depth at the position than Dan Orlovsky who will remain the teams backup for the time being or at least until Leinart is brought up to speed on their system.

Texans starting quarterback, Matt Schaub, has had a had time staying healthy in his first few seasons with the team which could provide Leinart an opportunity to showcase skills.

Leaving Arizona was probably best for both the Cardinals and Leinart.
