Texans Sign QB Case Keenum Off Rams Practice Squad

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans are signing QB Case Keenum off of the Rams’ practice squad on Monday.

This comes after the Texans lost QB Ryan Fitzpatrick for the season as he sustained a leg fracture during Sunday’s loss to the Colts. Fitzpatrick was replaced by rookie Tom Savage, but he too suffered an injury towards the end of the game.

As of now, Thad Lewis is their only healthy quarterback, so a move obviously needed to be made.

Keenum, 26, signed on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Houston back in 2012. He was unable to make the Texans’ final 53-man roster coming out of the preseason and was placed on waivers.

St. Louis later claimed him before they too cut him and eventually signed him to their practice squad.

Last year, Keenum appeared in eight games and completed 54.2 percent of his passes for 1,760 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions.
