Texans Sign Rookies RB Alfred Blue & S Lonnie Ballentine

The Houston Texans reached agreements with draft picks RB Alfred Blue and S Lonnie Ballentine on Wednesday, per Field Yates.

  • Aaron Wilson mentions that Ballentine’s contract is worth $2.265 million over the course of four years and includes a $45,896 signing bonus.

Ballentine is probably the more notable player of the two just for the fact that is this year’s “Mr Irrelevant.” He tested pretty well the draft process posting a forty time of 4.39, a 10-foot-5 broad jump, and a 38-inch vertical, so there is clearly some ability to work with.

He should be able to contribute on special teams, which should go a long ways towards him securing a roster spot at the end of August.

Blue, 23, was LSU’s No. 2 running back to Jeremy Hill and finished his college career with 209 carries for 1,253 yards rushing (6 YPC) and 11 touchdowns over the course of four years. He dealt with some injuries over his time at LSU.

The Texans have some guys at running back including free agent addition Andre Brown, but there is a chance that Blue could impress them during training camp and win a roster spot or possibly end up on the practice squad.
