Texans Sign DL Vince Wilfork To A Two-Year, $9M Deal

Former Patriots DL Vince Wilfork announced via his Twitter account that he’s signing with the Houston Texans.

  • John McClain reports that Wilfork receives a two-year contract worth $9 million and includes $5 million guaranteed from the Texans.

  • John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported yesterday that Wilfork was in Houston and would be meetig with Texans.
  • According to McClain, there were “several” other teams in pursuit of Wilfork.

The Texans have been viewed as a serious suitor for Wilfork since he became available. They could obviously use better interior defensive line play, and Wilfork is obviously familiar with DC Romeo Crennel from their time together in New England.

New England elected to not pick up the two-year team option included in his contract, which gave him the opportunity to test the open market.

Wilfork, 33, appeared in 16 games and recorded 47 tackles, one interception and two pass defenses for New England. Pro Football Focus has Wilfork rated as the No. 13 defensive end in a 3-4 system.
