Texans Sticking With QB Case Keenum Beyond Week 7?

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Houston Texans could keep QB Case Keenum in place as their starter beyond this weekend’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“Gary loves him,” said a source close to HC Gary Kubiak. “He’s extremely cerebral. He doesn’t have that big arm but he fits their mold — he can extend plays and get out of the way. He understands the system. That’s going to be a tough environment but he shows a pulse and moves the team some, I bet he sticks with him after the (Week 8) bye.”

Keenum gets an extremely tough test right out of the gate as he takes on one of the leagues best defenses on the road. Houston clearly wants to see what they have in Keenum, so it makes sense for them give him more than one game to see if he’s capable of making some plays and adjustments.

Matt Schaub, 32, is currently out with an injury, but it appears to more likely that the team will look to get out of his five-year, $66.15 million contract following the season.
