Texans Still Expected To Draft A QB At No. 1 Overall

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reiterates that he expects the Texans the select a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

  • McClain adds that he has “no clue who it’ll be,” but the Texans have yet to rule out any of the top-three quarterback prospects at this point in time.

McClain reported a few weeks ago that the Texans were “seriously considering” quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Johnny Manziel.

McClain has been adamant for a while now that Houston will draft a quarterback, despite the fact that there isn’t a clear-cut option.

There has been a lot of talk that Bortles could be the guy to watch for the Texans given that he appears to be the better fit in the new HC Bill O’Brien’s offense. However, O’Brien has said publicly that this talk is overblown.

Bridgewater has a decent contingent of supporters, but his Pro Day performance was lackluster enough that it could have an impact on his draft to some degree.

Jadeveon Clowney should get some consideration as well given that he and J.J. Watt would make for an extremely tough combo to deal with for opposing offensive lines.
