Texans Tried Out RBs Charles Sims & Akeem Hunt

According to Howard Balzer, the Houston Texans brought in free agent RBs Charles Sims and Akeem Hunt for tryouts on Wednesday.

Sims, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $3.104 million contract before returning to the Buccaneers on a one-year contract this past April.

The Buccaneers placed Sims on injured reserve last month before cutting him loose with an injury settlement a few weeks later.

In 2017, Sims appeared in all 16 games for the Buccaneers and rushed for 95 yards on 21 carries (5.9 YPC) to go along with 35 receptions for 249 yards receiving and one touchdown.

Hunt, 25, originally signed on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue back in May. However, he was unfortunately among their early roster cuts. The Ravens later signed him to their practice squad, but he lasted just a week in Baltimore.

The Texans signed Hunt to their practice squad in November of 2015 and he was on and off of their roster the past few years. The Chiefs signed him to their practice squad and eventually called him up a few weeks into the regular season last year before eventually placing him on injured reserve.

The Chiefs waived Hunt with a failed physical designation last month and he later reverted to the team’s physically unable to perform list and was eventually cut loose.

In 2017, Hunt appeared in 15 games for the Chiefs and rushed for 23 yards on eight carries (2.9 YPC) to go along with four receptions for 31 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He also contributed 611 kick return yards.
