Texans Waive FB Brad Smelley, DL Tim Jackson & Sign TE Chris Coyle

The Texans waived FB Brad Smelley and DL Tim Jackson on Tuesday, according to Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle.

  • The Texans also signed rookie tight end Chris Coyle to a contract.

Smelley, 25, was a seventh-round pick of the Browns back in 2012. He appeared in two games for Cleveland during his rookie season and caught one pass for 15 yards.

The Browns waived him at the start of the 2013 season and he later caught on with the Texans.

Jackson signed with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina. He recorded 71 tackles, two sacks, and an interception over the course of four years.

Coyle wound up going undrafted out of Arizona State this year, but managed to receive an invite to attend the Texans’ offseason workouts. During his three years at ASU, Coyle totaled 63 receptions for 769 yards receiving and five touchdowns.
