Texans Waive LB Ben Heeney With Injury Designation

The Houston Texans announced Wednesday that they’ve waived ILB Ben Heeney with an injury designation.

  • Aaron Wilson reported earlier in the day that Heeney underwent season-ending ankle surgery.

Should Heeney clear waivers tomorrow, he would revert to the Texans’ injured serve list.

Heeney, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Raiders back in 2015. He was in the second year of his four-year, $2,773,724 contract when the Raiders elected to cut him loose coming out of the preseason last year.

The Saints signed him to their practice squad and eventually called him up before cutting him loose soon after. The Texans claimed Heeney off of waivers and he finished out the year in Houston.

Heeney returned to the Texans this past March.

In 2017, Heeney appeared in five games and recorded two tackles and no sacks.
