Texans WR Keith Mumphery Expelled & Banned From MSU For Sexual Misconduct

Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press reports that Texans WR Keith Mumphery has been expelled and banned from Michigan State due to a violation of the school’s relationship violence and sexual misconduct policy.

The Texans say that they’re currently gathering information and have no further comment on Mumphery and this situation.

According to Ian Rapoport, this information was not publicly available until today. Rapoport adds that the scouts he’s spoken to around the league were not aware of this prior incident.

Mumphery is accused of sexually assaulting a student in her dorm room back in March of 2015. The incident was reported to MSU police shortly after it occurred. However, there are conflicting accounts of who was the aggressor and whether elements of their sexual behavior were consensual.

MSU police requested third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges, but the Ingham County Prosecutor’s office declined to press charges because the case could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt and the accuser did not return contact.

Mumphery, 24, is a former fifth-round pick of the Texans back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2,446,252 contract and stands to make a base salary of $615,000 for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Mumphery appeared in 11 games and caught 10 passes for 69 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
