Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel Believed To Have Met With 7 Teams At The Combine

Peter King MMQB.com mentioned in his Monday Morning Quarterback column that, based on various reports in recent days, Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel is believed to have met with seven NFL teams in recent days.

“Manziel met with Houston, Jacksonville, Cleveland, Dallas, Tampa Bay and Philadelphia coaches and team officials, and very likely Oakland, this weekend before flying back to Texas late Sunday afternoon,” King writes.

While most of these teams are obvious landing spots for Manziel as they are in need of quarterback help, it’s interesting to see that the Cowboys and Eagles are among the teams who have met with him.

Dallas is believed to be considering the idea of drafting a quarterback this year, but they would probably have to consider trading up for Manziel if they were to have any shot at him. This is, of course, barring a sizable drop in his draft stock.

The Eagles have Nick Foles in place as their starter and used a fourth-round pick on Matt Barkley last year, so the quarterback position doesn’t seem like much of need, especially in the early portion of the draft.

This is probably just teams doing their due diligence on certain players, even if they are unlikely to be available to them by the time they are on the clock in May.

Manziel is believed to be in the discussion for the No. 1 overall pick and has said that the Texans passing on him would be “the worst decision they’ve ever made.” At this point in time, it looks like he’ll end up being a top-five pick.

We have Manziel going to the Browns in our most recent 2014 NFL Mock Draft.
