Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes Visiting Jets

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes is visiting with the Jets on Wednesday.

One interesting note provided by Schefter is that Mahomes would have hired Jeremy Bates as his private quarterback coach this offseason. However, Bates agreed to join the Jets as their quarterbacks coach a few months ago, so there’s an obvious connection between the two.

New York is clearly doing extensive work on this year’s quarterback class, despite the fact that they’ve used mid-round picks on the position in each of the past two years.

Mahomes will visit with 19 teams before the NFL draft.

Mahomes, 21, is the mix to come off the board in the first round of this year’s NFL draft. He has a big arm and could end up being an intriguing developmental project for a team.

During his college career, Mahomes threw for 11,252 yards while completing 63.5 percent of his passes to go along with 93 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. He also rushed for 845 yards and 22 touchdowns at Texas Tech.
